SIG P365 Compatibility Guide — What Fits, What Doesn't & What Needs Verified
P365, P365X, P365-XL, XMACRO, XMACRO COMP, AXG and FUSE compatibility explained: FCUs, grip modules, slides, barrels, recoil assemblies, magazines, manual safeties, California magazine-disconnect FCUs, optic cuts, rails, holsters and the fitment traps that come from treating the entire family like one pistol.
P365 | P365X / XL | XMACRO | FUSE | 9mm / .380 | Parts Fitment
The P365 family is genuinely modular, but “P365 compatible” is not enough information to buy a part.
SIG identifies the serialized Fire Control Unit as the core of the platform and specifically describes the P365 FCU as movable among compatible grips, barrels and slides. [S1] SIG also sells factory CAL-X kits that turn one P365 FCU into .380, 3.7-inch XL and 4.3-inch FUSE configurations. [S8-S10]
The catch is that slide length, barrel length, recoil assembly, grip length, magazine family, manual-safety cut, California magazine-disconnect configuration, optic footprint, accessory rail and holster geometry still have to match the finished pistol.
The P365 Rule: Identify the FCU, Upper Length and Grip Length Separately
The cleanest way to understand the P365 is to stop thinking in model names and start thinking in assemblies.
FCU configuration + upper family + grip family + magazine + optic/rail/holster configuration = the actual pistol. “P365X,” “XL,” “Macro” and “FUSE” are useful model names, but compatibility lives in the dimensions and parts underneath them.
P365 Family Map
| Configuration | Upper / Barrel Family | Grip Family | Magazine Baseline | Compatibility Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P365 9mm | 3.1" barrel / short upper | Standard P365 short grip | 10-round flush baseline; longer magazines extend below grip | Core micro configuration. [S2, S3] |
| P365 .380 | 3.1" .380-specific upper / recoil system | Shares standard P365 grip architecture | 10-round .380 magazine | SIG documents a shared FCU and grip module with the 9mm P365, but the upper, recoil and magazine remain caliber-specific. [S3, S8] |
| P365X | 3.1" P365/P365X upper | X/XL longer grip | X/XL-length magazines | Short slide + longer grip. [S4, S6] |
| P365-XL | 3.7" upper / recoil family | X/XL longer grip | 12-round flush baseline | Factory CAL-X kits confirm the 3.7" upper as a modular P365 configuration. [S9] |
| P365-XMACRO | 3.7" XL/XMACRO-length upper | XMACRO / macro-length grip with 1913 rail | 17-round flush baseline | SIG's current macro grip requires an XL/XMACRO-length slide and matching magazine. [S5] |
| P365-XMACRO COMP | Long integrated-comp slide with 3.1" barrel | XMACRO grip | 17-round baseline | Do not confuse the outer slide length with barrel length; the COMP uses a 3.1" barrel. [S11] |
| P365-FUSE | 4.3" barrel / FUSE-length upper | Macro-length grip architecture | 17-round flush / 21-round extended | Longest mainstream P365 upper family; factory CAL-X kits exist. [S7, S10] |
The FCU Is the Common Core
SIG defines the P365 FCU as the serialized part of the firearm and specifically describes the P365 modular system as allowing the FCU to move among compatible grip modules, barrels and slides. [S1]
That common core is what makes the family flexible enough for factory .380, XL, XMACRO and FUSE conversion kits. [S8-S10]
But FCU fit is only the first gate. A grip module can physically accept the FCU and still require a different magazine, safety cut, slide length, recoil system, rail-mounted accessory and holster.
9mm and .380 Share More Than Most People Realize — But Not Everything
SIG's 2023 catalog explicitly described the P365-380 as using a shared FCU and grip module with the P365 9mm. [S3] SIG also continues to list standard P365 and X/XL grip modules as 9mm/.380-compatible. [S4, S6]
That does not mean the calibers share the same complete upper. The .380 uses its own slide/barrel/recoil configuration and .380 magazine. SIG's P365-380 CAL-X kit exists specifically to convert the same modular platform to the .380 upper/magazine system. [S8]
If you are changing caliber, treat the upper, recoil system and magazine as a matched caliber package.
Grip Modules — Three Main Length Families
| Grip Family | Typical Models | Magazine / Upper Relationship | Main Compatibility Traps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard P365 | P365 9mm, P365-380 | Shortest grip; 10-round flush baseline | Longer mags extend below the grip; standard rail/holster geometry differs from Macro modules. [S4] |
| P365X / P365-XL | P365X, P365-XL | Longer grip; designed around X/XL magazines; can pair with 3.1" or 3.7" uppers depending exact module/design | Manual-safety cut, magazine floorplate and aftermarket dust-cover length. [S6, S12] |
| XMACRO / FUSE macro-length | XMACRO, XMACRO COMP, FUSE, many AXG variants | 17-round flush baseline; current SIG macro modules call for XL/XMACRO-length slides and correct magazines | 1913 rail changes light/holster fit; manual-safety and California FCUs need the correct module. [S5, S13] |
The aftermarket now mixes grip length, dust-cover length and rail geometry in ways the original factory lineup did not. SIG's current P365X AXG module, for example, accepts both 3.1" P365X and 3.7" XL/XMACRO slides while using X-size-or-larger magazines and a 1913 rail. [S12]
So do not buy an aluminum or hybrid module by the words “P365” or “XMACRO” alone. Read the maker's exact slide-length, magazine, manual-safety, magazine-disconnect and holster notes.
Slide, Barrel & Recoil Families
This is where a lot of P365 builds go sideways. The FCU may fit, but the upper still has its own dimensional family.
| Upper Family | Barrel | Typical Models | What Must Stay Matched |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short 3.1" 9mm | 3.1" | P365 / P365X | 3.1" barrel + short recoil assembly + compatible slide. [S2] |
| Short 3.1" .380 | 3.1" | P365-380 | .380-specific slide, barrel, recoil system and magazine. [S3, S8] |
| XL / non-comp Macro | 3.7" | P365-XL / non-comp XMACRO | 3.7" barrel and XL/XMACRO recoil system. SIG sells a factory 3.7" XL CAL-X. [S9] |
| XMACRO COMP | 3.1" | XMACRO COMP | Integrated-comp slide, 3.1" barrel and its matching recoil configuration. [S11] |
| FUSE | 4.3" | P365-FUSE | FUSE-length slide, 4.3" barrel and matching recoil system. Factory CAL-X exists. [S7, S10] |
The standard P365/P365X and XMACRO COMP both use 3.1" barrels, but the XMACRO COMP uses the longer integrated-comp slide architecture. That means “3.1-inch P365 barrel” is not enough information for slides, recoil systems, comps or holsters. [S11]
The same logic applies to aftermarket barrel/comp systems: verify the exact slide-length family the manufacturer designed the kit around.
Magazine Compatibility — Body Length, Caliber and Floorplate All Matter
SIG's current P365 manual shows 10-, 12-, 15-, 17-, 21- and 25-round magazine configurations and multiple floorplates for different grip lengths. It also explicitly states that magazine springs are unique to caliber and capacity. [S14]
That tells you why “it locks into the gun” is not enough. The correct magazine has to match the cartridge, the grip length, the baseplate/floorplate relationship and any magwell.
XMACRO/FUSE-length modules are built around the 17-round family, while FUSE also ships with 21-round magazines. Shorter P365 and X/XL grips can use longer magazines with the correct baseplate/sleeve relationship, but you should expect the magazine to extend below the grip. [S7, S14]
Manual Safety and California Magazine Disconnect — Do Not Ignore These
SIG sells separate grip-module versions for manual-safety and non-manual-safety P365 FCUs. Standard P365, X/XL and XMACRO modules all have safety-specific variants. [S4-S6, S13]
California P365 FCUs add another layer because of the magazine-disconnect mechanism. SIG's current XMACRO grip page says the standard non-safety module does not work with the California FCU, while SIG sells a separate California-compliant manual-safety XMACRO module specifically designed around that mechanism. [S5, S13]
Before ordering a grip module, know whether your FCU has a manual safety and whether it has the California magazine disconnect.
Optics: “P365 Footprint” Is No Longer One Answer
SIG's current P365 manual documents two optic-cut systems in circulation: COMPACT / Shield RMS-c and SIG-LOC. SIG identifies them by the slide geometry around the screw holes. [S15]
| Cut | SIG Identification | Filler-Plate Screw Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| COMPACT / Shield RMS-c | Raised bosses | M3 screws, 8 in-lbf for SIG's filler plate procedure. [S15] |
| SIG-LOC | Flush screw holes | M4 screws, 24 in-lbf for SIG's filler plate procedure. [S15] |
Do not carry torque numbers from the filler plate over to an optic unless the optic manufacturer's instructions say to. And do not assume an optic that fit an older RMSc-cut P365 slide automatically mounts directly to a newer SIG-LOC slide.
SIG's 2026 catalog lists the optic-ready FUSE as compatible with SIG-LOC and RMS-c footprint optics, while the RXSL version ships with a factory SIG-LOC optic. [S7] That is exactly why “P365 optic ready” is not a complete fitment answer anymore.
Rails, Lights and Holsters — A Grip Swap Can Change All Three
XMACRO and FUSE-family grip modules use a true 1913 accessory rail. [S5, S7] That can open up light choices — and simultaneously make your old standard-P365 holster useless.
Holster fit follows the finished exterior geometry: grip/rail shape, trigger guard, slide length, optic, light, compensator and sometimes threaded-barrel length. SIG's own FUSE holster listing says it is not compatible with other P365 models, despite all of them sharing the same platform name. [S16]
That is the compatibility lesson in one sentence: FCU interchange does not equal holster interchange.
Aftermarket Parts Can Make the P365 Better — If You Match the Actual System
The P365 is one of the strongest aftermarket platforms on the market because the FCU lets you change grip geometry, slide length, optics, barrels, compensators, controls and even the role of the pistol without buying another serialized core.
That flexibility is useful. It also creates a perfect environment for bad fitment advice. A part can be excellent and still be wrong for your exact configuration.
Our standard: identify the exact upper length, grip family, FCU safety configuration, optic cut and magazine before buying the upgrade. Then function-test the whole build instead of judging the part in isolation.
Practical What-Fits-What Matrix
| Part / Swap | Usually Possible? | What You Must Verify |
|---|---|---|
| P365 FCU into P365X/XL grip | Yes, within the correct safety/disconnect configuration | Manual-safety cut, California disconnect, magazine length. [S4, S6] |
| P365 FCU into XMACRO grip | Yes, with the correct module version | Manual safety / CA FCU, XL/XMACRO-length slide, 17-round-family magazine. [S5, S13] |
| P365 3.1 upper onto X/XL grip | Yes — this is essentially the P365X concept | Correct 3.1 upper/recoil system and X/XL magazine. |
| 3.7 XL upper onto compatible P365 FCU/grip | Yes | 3.7 barrel/recoil system, grip dust-cover relationship, magazine and holster. Factory CAL-X confirms the upper family. [S9] |
| XMACRO COMP slide with ordinary 3.7 XL barrel | No assumption | XMACRO COMP is a 3.1" barrel / integrated-comp slide system. Use the correct barrel and recoil system. [S11] |
| 9mm P365 converted to .380 | Factory architecture supports it | Use the .380 slide/barrel/recoil/magazine package; shared FCU/grip does not make the upper interchangeable part-by-part. [S3, S8] |
| FUSE 4.3 upper on a P365 FCU | Yes — SIG sells a factory CAL-X kit | FUSE-length upper/recoil setup, compatible grip and magazine, holster. [S10] |
| P365 optic from one slide to another optics-ready P365 slide | Maybe | Identify COMPACT/RMS-c vs SIG-LOC cut, screw type/length and optic manufacturer's fit list. [S15] |
| Standard P365 holster after XMACRO/FUSE grip swap | Usually no assumption | Trigger-guard/rail geometry, slide length, light and optic. [S16] |
Before You Buy a P365 Part — Verify These Ten Things
- Caliber: 9mm or .380.
- FCU safety configuration: manual safety or no manual safety.
- California magazine disconnect: present or absent.
- Upper family: 3.1 standard/X, 3.7 XL/non-comp Macro, XMACRO COMP, or 4.3 FUSE.
- Barrel length and type: do not infer it from outer slide length.
- Recoil assembly: match the exact upper family.
- Grip length: standard, X/XL, or Macro-length.
- Magazine body / floorplate: correct caliber, capacity and grip fit.
- Optic cut: Compact/RMS-c or SIG-LOC if optics-ready.
- External fitment: rail, light, compensator, optic and holster around the completed gun.
If a Mixed P365 Build Doesn't Run, Don't Blame “Aftermarket Parts” as a Category
Mixed P365 builds add variables: slide mass, recoil rate, barrel fit, compensator drag/gas requirement, magazine presentation, grip-module geometry and ammunition.
Start with the exact symptom. Verify the upper parts belong to the same family. Try a known-good magazine and known-good ammunition. Check whether the magazine is fully seating in the chosen grip/magwell. Then change one variable at a time.
A quality aftermarket part that is wrong for your slide family is still the wrong part. A factory part installed into an incompatible configuration can create the same mess.
