AR Platform Forge Files
Compatibility, buying, barrels, bolt carrier groups, gas systems, buffers, magazines, triggers, handguards, optics, zeroing, muzzle devices, maintenance, cycling and real AR troubleshooting built around the complete operating system.
Buying | Compatibility | Gas | Recoil | Reliability | Optics | Zeroing | Maintenance
The AR is modular. That does not mean every part operates independently.
Gas-port geometry affects carrier velocity. Carrier velocity interacts with buffer mass and spring force. Magazine presentation affects feeding. Barrel and bolt geometry establish the locking relationship. Optic height changes shooter geometry. Suppressors change the pressure environment. Understand the system before tuning the individual part.
Build the system. Not the parts pile.

Barrels & Bolt Carrier Groups+
The core locking, chambering, extraction and gas-handling hardware.
Barrel Guide5.56, .223 Wylde, twist rates, length, velocity, profiles, materials, chambers and suppressor hosting. Bolt Carrier Group Guide
C158 vs 9310, carrier mass, gas keys, staking, gas rings, extractors, HPT/MPI and coatings.
Buying & Compatibility+
Identify the receiver family and core architecture before buying around assumptions.
Buying & Inspection GuideComplete rifles, uppers, lowers, used builds, staking, gas systems, wear clues and premium-feature reality checks. Compatibility Guide
AR-15 vs large-frame receivers, barrels, bolts, magazines, buffers, handguards, triggers and proprietary systems.
Gas, Buffer & Cycling+
Where the operating energy comes from and how the rifle controls it.
Gas System & Cycling GuideGas ports, dwell time, gas blocks, carrier velocity, short-stroking, suppressors and adjustable gas. Buffer & Recoil System Guide
Carbine, rifle and A5 systems, H/H2/H3 buffers, springs, carrier travel, bolt bounce and low-mass systems.
Handguards & Accessory Mounting+
Rail rigidity, barrel nuts, gas-block clearance and accessory interfaces.
Handguards, Rails & Accessory MountingFree-float, M-LOK, Picatinny, barrel nuts, rail rigidity, gas-block clearance and large-frame height.
Issues & Solutions+
Diagnose where the cycle stopped instead of blaming gas, magazines or lube by default.
Extraction & Ejection ProblemsExtractor claws, springs, chamber friction, ejectors, stovepipes, short-stroking and extraction timing. Failure to Feed — Causes & Diagnosis
Magazine seating, bolt-over-base, short-stroking, ammo geometry, feed ramps, chambering and first-round failures. Failure to Return to Battery / Lock
Chamber fouling, carrier drag, spring energy, locking lugs, extractor interaction, gas-tube alignment and headspace.
Magazines & Feeding+
Magazine geometry establishes cartridge position. Carrier travel determines whether the bolt gets behind it.
Magazine Compatibility & Feeding5.56, .300 BLK, Grendel, ARC, 6.8, 7.62×39, .308, feed lips, followers, springs and bolt-over-base failures.
Maintenance & Wear+
Clean for function, lubricate bearing surfaces and learn what wear patterns actually matter.
Cleaning, Lubrication & Wear GuideBCG lubrication, chambers, bores, gas rings, cam pins, carrier rails, extractor/ejector cleaning, buffers and suppressor fouling.
Optics & Sights+
Mount to a stable structure, choose height intentionally and zero around the rifle's actual geometry and ammunition.
Optics & Mounting GuideRed dots, LPVOs, prisms, cantilever mounts, height-over-bore, co-witness, magnifiers, offset dots and RTZ. Sights & Zeroing Guide
25-, 36-, 50/200- and 100-yard zeros, mechanical offset, sight height, MOA/MRAD and BDC reticles.
Recoil & Muzzle Devices+
Control recoil and muzzle behavior without ignoring gas, buffer and suppressor interactions.
Buffer & Recoil System Guide Muzzle Devices & Recoil ManagementBrakes, compensators, flash hiders, hybrids, blast regulators, suppressor mounts, timing and bore clearance.
Triggers & Controls+
Trigger architecture, feel, reset, hammer energy and fitment.
Trigger & Fire-Control GuideSingle vs two stage, cassette triggers, pull weight, break, reset, hammer energy, light strikes and fitment.
The gas system supplies operating energy. The carrier, buffer and spring control what happens with it. The magazine positions the next cartridge. The BCG extracts, ejects, feeds and locks. The barrel determines chamber and gas geometry.
If you change one of those systems, the rifle may respond somewhere else.
The IronKells Standard
Manufacturer documentation establishes the factory baseline. It does not automatically answer every aftermarket, suppressed, tuned, competition or troubleshooting question.
Forge Files combine manufacturer documentation, technical standards, credible testing, documented failure modes, experienced armorer/shooter knowledge and IronKells hands-on observations when we actually have them. Stock is a baseline — not automatically the finish line.
Future AR Forge Files can expand into caliber-specific systems, suppressor setup, dedicated build guides, precision ARs, competition rifles and other subjects when there is enough technical substance to justify a standalone reference.
